Curtis Granderson, Edwin Jackson traded
From the looks of it, Tigers outfielder Curtis Granderson will be putting on the pinstripes in 2010. Edwin Jackson seems bound for Arizona in another part of the deal. In return, the Tigers seem to be getting pitchers Max Scherzer (D-backs) and Phil Coke (Yankees), along with center fielder Austin Jackson (Yankees). Daniel Schlereth (D-backs) may be part of the deal, media reports say. Nothing has been finalized.
In New York, Granderson will probably take advantage of the nice short porch for left-handed hitters and the media and take another step forward in the baseball world. He never seemed to play as well in Comerica Park as he did on the road. And what better place than New York for a future media star like himself?
While that's great for Granderson, it's little consolation to Tigers fans. Really, it's a bit like putting your girlfriend on a bus to Hollywood, as she leaves you to try to break it big in movies. I'm happy for him to get that opportunity, but ... he was ours, and kind of a big deal and important figure in the state of Michigan.
And now he's not.
From an emotional standpoint, I will never like this deal.
From a baseball standpoint? Well, it's going to take awhile to get to the point of really analyzing the trade from a baseball standpoint. Right now, I don't want to.
